The Sustainability Fund is designed to support projects that foster sustainable resource use and have economic and social benefits for Victorians. Since 2004, the Fund has provided $42 million in funding to support 82 diverse projects in schools, businesses, local government and community groups.
Projects supported by the fund are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from dairy farms, establish recycling systems in high-rise apartments, create parklands from old landfill sites, conduct research into solar powered rail, deliver sustainability workshops for small business and reduce energy use from domestic water heating and air-conditioning.
The Fund also supports sustainability projects in Neighbourhood Renewal Areas, projects outlined in the Environmental Sustainability Action Statement (ESAS) and projects in partnership with local councils through the Sustainability Accord.
Renewable Energy Support Fund
The Renewable Energy Equity Fund is a key initiative of the Victorian Greenhouse Strategy and aims to facilitate and demonstrate innovative renewable energy projects that contribute to reducing Victoria's greenhouse gas emissions.
Renewable energy sources are those that cannot be depleted or can be replaced and include energy from:
- wave and tidal
Sustainability Victoria regularly invite proposals for innovative renewable energy projects under the $8 million Renewable Energy Support Fund. The next round is to be announced later in the year.
The Renewable Energy Support Fund is funded through the Victorian Greenhouse Strategy and can provide funding of up to 20% of the capital cost of projects. Projects must demonstrate innovation and local market development potential in the delivery of renewable energy to Victoria.
The amount of support available for a project is based on the level to which the project satisfies selection criteria.
