Standards compliance

  1. All pages are XHTML 1.0 Transitional and styled with CSS 2.
  2. All the XHTML and CSS validate according to W3C standards. Please note that some third party JavaScript at the bottom of each page prevents the entire page from validating.
  3. All pages are structured using semantic markup. For example, the correct use of H1-H6 tags, paragraphs and list etc. All HTML tags are used solely for their purpose and meaning.

Visual design

This site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for visual layout. If your browser does not support CSS, the content of each page is still readable, usable and accessible.

Links

  1. Many links have explanation 'titles' attached to them to describe the link in greater detail. Hold your mouse over this link for an example of a link title.
  2. Whenever possible, links are written so that they make sense out of context. Many browsers can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list separately from the page.
  3. Link text is not duplicated. If you see two links with the same link text, they will both point to the same address.
  4. You will be warned if a link is going to open a new window.

Images

  1. All content images/ use descriptive ALT attributes.
  2. Images have been used sparingly and only where considered appropriate.

Acronyms or abbreviations are indicated by a dotted underline. Mouse over them to view a title that describes them in greater detail.

Printing

All pages are optimised for printing. Text size is changed and all sections or features of the pages that are not applicable to a print document are hidden.
